How Do You Get Inspired?

page0.JPG

HOLA!

Today I decided to dedicate this post to a question I tend to get a lot. “How do you get inspired?” That being a loaded question, I wanted to share a particular way.

One of the ways I get inspired is… browsing beautiful work of art & saving them. When I pin or screenshot an image, many times I use it as just that — Inspiration. It stimulates my mind and strengthens creativity.

I either look for colors, lovely usage of negative space, design of any category, movement and anything else in between that catches my eye. I try to gather as much beautiful images as I can to inspire me which ultimately sends me off to my own creative flow.

In a way it’s like I create my own little digital gallery of beauty.

Next time I will share so many other ways I get inspired.

Hope you enjoyed today’s post!

Spring Colors 2021

bonito_spring_colors_2021.jpg

Hola!

Bonito had an Instagram LIVE about Spring Colors yesterday. Thanks to everyone who voted for this topic. I was so inspired by spring’s color hues and motivating season. For those that missed it here is a brief overview.

Four colors where chosen because they are all great for any type of event during the spring (baby showers, birthdays, bridal showers, weddings, engagements, etc..)

Here are the 4 colors:

  • Lemon Zest / Illuminating Yellow

  • Powder / Baby Blue

  • Pistachio / sage Green

  • Lavender / Lavender Garden

What I also love is they can be combined with other colors (such as blush colors or greenery) or simply go with a monochromatic color scheme and just add different hues.

You can go to our Pinterest where all of the inspo images that were shared and discussed are saved for you. CLICK HERE to view and get inspired.

BALLOON ALTERNATIVES

5e451c3d9a9815bbdf07896674b50bdf.jpg

Hola, We are back with a few party ideas. This time we are tackling another question most of you made on our Instagram.

“What is a good alternative for balloons that are as visually festive?”

I would say tissue paper honeycomb & paper lanterns are excellent because they are also round and come in different colors. They give a similar festive vibe and you can use different sizes as well.

Garlands, paper fans, tassels, banners are also great alternatives that give a festive feel. You can see below different ideas and how you can mix and match to create your own look.

TIP: I would suggest to buy these items already made so all you have to worry about is assembling and placement. If you are crafty and have more time in your hands to diy make sure you start the project ahead of the event because all of these lovelies take time to do. :)

Q & A WITH FLORALS BY YAMILETH

Yamileth.JPG

Hola Everyone!

Today we have our special Bonita Guest answering a few questions you all made on our instagram. I decided to bring a Pro to answer the following questions. Let’s welcome Florals by Yamileth a fabulous floral designer who I have had the pleasure to work with & know. Excited to have her over! Now let’s jump right to it…

What are the best flowers to buy during the summertime?

Best flowers are the hardy types, the ones that withstand the heat. For example roses, natural color hydrangea, veronicas, sunflower, poppy, orchids, wax flowers, hypericum, limonium, zinnia, green trick and matusomoto aster flowers. Just to mention a few, but the list goes on.

How do you keep beautiful flowers from wilting in the outdoor heat?

It’s very important to have the flowers hydrated 24+ hours before displaying them in any arrangement especially if there going to be in the heat. Change the the water everyday so no bacteria would get to them. Give them a fresh cut and keep them clean. Once they are arranged and displayed outside make sure the vase, plate or oasis has enough water to keep them looking lovely until the end of your event. Make sure you spray them with plenty of water.  Remember always have extra flowers just incase the flowers decide to wilt. It’s not your fault if they do, flowers have there own life span that no one can control.

When are diy floral arrangements a good idea and when is it not such a good idea?

I think it’s a great idea for diy if you are having a small gathering with friends and family. Flowers always bring a sense of happiness and class to any room or social event.

It’s not a good idea if you are looking for a specific detailed centerpiece that takes time and knowledge to create. Special occasions involve intricate work that require design skill & floral experience from a pro. Hiring a professional in bigger events will only relieve you from unecessary headaches.

Thank you Yamileth for your professional advice and time. If you ever need a floral designer to work with she is highly recommended by Bonito. I trust her all the way.

PICNIC + OUTDOOR TIPS

bonito_design_picnic_idea.jpg

Hola! Hope you are all enjoying a little bit of sun as much as you can. Last week I asked on Bonito’s instagram if you had any questions or tips for me. — And gladly many of you did. Today I want to tackle 2 questions here since it relates to my previous blog post.

Q&A:

How do you pack all the stuff so everything stays beautiful at a park celebration?

When you are packing up for a park picnic celebration. Make sure you wrap anything that may break or seal anything that may leak securely. I love packing up things in containers or even reusable zip lock bags to keep things organized as well. I separate any small items like paper straws or napkins so they are not all tossed and all over the place in my bag when I unpack. Also, make sure you pack lighter/delicate things on top of the heavier things.

I would also take a cooler to keep necessary things cool. If it’s a celebration of two you can take thermo bottles and opt out of the cooler if not needed.

Things like wooden serving boards also come in handy to display food and other items.

How do you prevent bugs from attacking w/o citronella candles?

Bugs can definitely be a challenging situation when it comes to food. My best tip is to have cover tents for the food. Toss or seal anything you are done with as soon as your done and keep sipping away.

There are a few items that may help carry everything more efficient, organized and more stylish. Here are my picks:

A Cooler to store food that need to be chilled or beverage.

Cool Cooler: Crate and Barrel + Insulated Basket: Urban Outfitters

Keep the food display stylish.

Basket: Amazon + Wooden Serving Board: Target

Hope the tips & ideas helped. Stay tune for more tips on our Instagram.Com/BonitoDesign

Oudoor Party Tips

bonito_picnic_party.jpg

Hola!

Today we want to share a few tips for those planning an outdoor party. We thought it might be much needed since covid has put some restrictions on our lifestyles at the moment.

Here are some tips to celebrating quarantine style.

For those that are celebrating intimidly in their backyard or park here are some tips that may help when planning.

TIPS:

  • Be ready to move the setting indoor if weather changes or have a tentative date.

  • Use Food Covers - this will prevent bugs or insects from being near the food.

  • Cake or anything that may melt should be stored in a cool place. For example, if you are at home bring it out right before taking pictures.

  • Wind is something else you can not control. If it’s too windy I would say to limit decor just because you want to enjoy your time instead of worrying on keeping things from flying off. Things like paper plates, paper cups, napkins, balloons, lightweight linens, etc… are items that can be affected by the wind) Another tip is using weights that can keep things from flying away. I love using pretty stones or covered tiles.

  • Too much heat can pop balloons (have a few extra if you are blowing them up yourself)

  • Flowers flowers are always the way to go for outdoor. Just keep them hydrated.

IDEAS:

  • You can setup a cute picnic style. Repurpose things you already own at home like pillows, lanterns, plates, vases, etc…

  • You can use your Patio/Balcony/Park/Fire Escape

  • Brunch/Dinner tablescape

There is a beautiful sentiment to celebrate small. As much as some may want to party big, I say to take this time to really appreciate the blessings you have and make it all count. Safety is first of course. You know the drill.

Happy Weekend!

XOXO

BRIDE WEDDING TIPS

bonito-design-melissa-wedding-inspo.jpg

HOLA EVERYONE!

Today we are sharing real wedding tips from a Bonito Bride, Melissa Habel-Inoa. Another Bride we had the joy to work with since we opened our doors to styling Weddings. We thought she could give some good insights for those that are about to get married in an intimate setting.

Melissa opted for a Rustic Wedding styled by BONITO, which you can see more photos HERE.

Melissa opted for a Rustic Wedding styled by BONITO, which you can see more photos HERE.

Q&A

1. Did you always know you wanted a wedding?

A white long dress, long veil, and a bouquet was a dream I've always had since I was a young girl. After watching a whole bunch of Disney movies, I couldn't wait for the day I would get married!

2. How did you come up with your wedding theme?

Well... We originally planned of having a destination wedding in the Dominican Republic but it was very difficult communicating with wedding planners, event designers, vendors, and venue representatives overseas. Then, with the realization that it was going to be almost impossible to be in constant communication with people in a different country, we decided to have a wedding within New York. We wanted a rustic wedding because we LOVE the rustic decor -after all, our apartment decor style is rustic!

3. Why an intimate wedding?

I've always known that I wanted a wedding, however, as a child I dreamed of having a HUGE wedding. As I grew older, I was able to understand the value of having family and close friends. Therefore, as I matured, my mindset of having a gigantic wedding shifted into having a small intimate wedding with our loved ones. I wouldn't change my mind of having an intimate wedding if I could do it all over again.

4. Any bride butterflies aka wedding anxiety?

I do not like anyone planning things for me or taking care of the decor during my events. I always take charge of decorations and planning any special event that my friends or families have so to leave everything in Helen's hands was my biggest fear. I didn't want to show up to the venue and hate the outcome! Slowly, throughout the process, I was able to trust Helen - thank God I did because she surpassed my expectations!

5. Would you do it again?

I would absolutely do it again! Many brides warned me about getting stressed out but it was the total opposite for me. I would definitely do it all over again!

6. Give us 3 Do's (from your experience).

  • Be open to changing your wedding theme after the suggestions from event stylist are given.

  • TURN OFF YOUR PHONE as you prepare for your big day so that no one calls you about the time to be at the venue, what to wear, etc. this day is for you to RELAX.

  • Be in constance communication with your event stylist just to make sure you are both on the same page.

7. Give us 3 Don't (from your expereince).

  • Don't be afraid to tell your event designer your opinion and what you would like to have at your wedding.

  • Don't forget to eat at your wedding (totally forgot to have dinner due to making sure everyone was okay)!

  • Don't forget that your wedding day is all about you and your spouse!

8. If you could advice a Bride or Groom To Be what would you tell he/she?

Some advice for the bride is remember that although you would like others to enjoy your wedding, the day is all about you since this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience -enjoy the day as much as possible! Absorb all the planning, phone calls, and the celebration itself!

For the groom, just say "yes" to the plans of the bride (lol)!

9. Why Bonito?

Finding a wedding designer was the most difficult part of the planning process. I wanted to make sure that my wedding would have my vision. After searching...and searching... and the wedding date being LESS THAN THREE MONTHS AWAY, I found Bonito Design. After seeing the pictures of events that Bonito designed, there was never doubt that Bonito would transform the place into what I wanted. I definitely would choose Bonito Design for upcoming events in a heartbeat!

LEMON PARTY THEME

BONITO DESIGN EVENTS SAIGEY'S LEMON PARTY 9.jpg

HOLA! Today’s post is all about a theme we have always been obsessed with. Yes, Lemon Party Theme! We just love it that it has become a party theme trend! Even though for us it’s timeless.

We are sharing Saigey’s 1st Birthday Cake Smash. If you follow us on instagram you may have witness such cuteness already. This was such a hit on IG that we wanted to share a few links that we love using.

Here are a few recommendations for those who plan or are inspired to do this theme too. To tie a theme together you need a color scheme & items that ties it all together, right! Well here are some of our shopping suggestions.

  1. Send out Digital Invites that goes with the theme. We love using Paperless Post. It’s easy, practical and fun. You can customize the invite to change liners of envelopes like I did below, play with colors and fonts of your preference and write your own message. Their design selection is also super cute!

  2. Plates, Birthday Candle and Napkins are from one of our fav shops Meri Meri.

  3. Simple Cake Stand from Crate and Barrel.

  • The mommy made the delicious and adorable Lemon Cake. Omg should we ask her for the recipe to share with you all? Let us know.

Tip:

  • Saigey approved of loving the taste of lemon. So this theme was perfect all around. However, make sure your baby loves lemon cake too before getting or making one.

Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy. Hope you enjoyed this post!

EVENT STYLIST VS EVENT PLANNER

Hola! Talking today about the differences between an Event Stylist vs Event Planner. Well, as complicated as it may sound. It really isn’t but, I do see how people can be puzzled a bit. So here goes our brief breakdown.

Hola! Talking today about the differences between an Event Stylist vs Event Planner. Well, as complicated as it may sound. It really isn’t but, I do see how people can be puzzled a bit. So here goes our brief breakdown.

EVENT STYLIST:

An Event Stylist, is mainly responsible for all the aesthetics and overall look of the event. Our responsibility is to execute the vision of a client, one’s own or both. Focused on all the creative tasks in transforming a space. We work on the themes, color palette, decor, flowers, table setting, menus, floor plan layout, styling budget and anything related to the creative production of the event.

We also, work with vendors to help us create the vision with the guide of our creative direction.

EVENT PLANNER:

The Event Planner, “is the overall coordinator of the event.” The planner handles everything that has to do with the event, like finding a venue, DJ, entertainment, caterers, decor and anything the event needs. Managing the whole budget of the event as well as negotiating contracts. Delegating all vendors and ensuring the whole event runs smoothly from planning to the end of the party.

EVENT STYLIST VS EVENT PLANNER

In Summary, an Event Stylist focuses on the aesthetics/styling & Event Planner on logistics/functionality of the event.

Hope this blog post helped in clarifying the difference. Our next tips will be on How to Select a good Event Stylist.

PARTY OVER

BONITO DESIGN & EVENTS AT ARCHER HOTEL ROOM.jpg

When the party is over you better believe rest is to follow!

Last month Bonito’s event was at the Archer Hotel Florham, NJ. The event was a Christening for Baby AJB inspired by The Little Prince Theme. (If you missed it please CLICK HERE to see it).

This gorgeous hotel was so tempting, that I decided to book a stay. I am so glad I did and can not wait to go back! Yup, this hotel was so beautiful, accommodating and everyone there was so wonderful. If you have been following the Instastories, I am sure you are in agreement.

Right after Bonito’s work was successfully completed, I went to the restaurant. Ordered a delicious burger and a drink, which I highly recommend. (See below for reco). After that amazing indulgence, I took advantage of my Deluxe King Studio. I absolutely loved my room. The interior, the space, the complimentary treats, the adorable slippers, desk area, robe and Malin + Goetz shower items. Slept like a baby and woke up to go right to their indoor pool.

The only problem I had was leaving. Next time I am going to enjoy it even more because it will be a mini getaway.

RAIN RAIN GO AWAY

BONITO DESIGN EVENTS GAMING 1 -2.jpg

A little rain don't hurt nobody. Well, in our case it does, specially when it pours.

Yes, it poured on our party date. Fortunately, we had options. As you can see we moved the outdoor party indoors. Phew! Right!

Because you are all my beautiful supporters, followers and clients I decided to write a few tips for you all.

IMG_6862.jpg

Bonito Tips:

When deciding on doing your party outdoors you must remember that you are playing with a risk of the weather changing over night. You just can't control the climate. Unless you have powers then please give me a call asap.

Always have a rain date or a Plan B. Tents, a covered outdoor area, Indoor option and/or another date. This would help you have less stress and also keep your guests informed and prepared if weather changes.

Plan B Options:

Indoors - make sure the space is as big as the outdoor. You need to accommodate your guests the same way.

Rain Date - postpone it for a better climate and have the party exactly as envisioned.

Tents/Coverage -  this is a good option because this would be the only change made. However, keep in mind that if it pours the floor or grass will be wet. Also, the look will change a bit.

Hope I helped.

BONITO TIP

BONITO DESIGN EVENTS HG WEB.jpg

HOLA! Hope you all had a lovely weekend including the Easter and/or Passover celebration.

Today I wanted to bring you a simple TIP. If you are creating a setting or idea, give your details LOVE. Yes, love!

Here you see a simple, but elegant table setting. You don't have to over do it all the time. Reuse your beautiful flatware and mix it up with chargers, napkin rings and give it love by paying attention to the smallest detail. In this case the choice of using the napkin in the center of the plate with a silver ring was BONITO enough. Play around with it and have fun with your creation.

Remember less can also be more.

Happy Monday!

PS11 BK Scholars Party

BONITO DESIGN EVENTS PS11 5.jpg

Hi Everyone! This past weekend Bonito took part on helping to decorate a party for PS11 Brooklyn school, celebrating, 4th, 5th and 6th grade students for their scholastic achievements.

Over eight hundred students from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds attend PS11. The school and PTA celebrates and encourages academic excellence among PS11 students. This amazing and beautiful rewarding system has increased 70% of their students to achieve high level grades this year. The goal of their Scholars Reception is to shine a light on intellectual achievement and scholarship.

Learning all about this made the 750 guests attending the Reception at Brooklyn Expo Center a lesser challenge because Bonito's heart was in. Plus, 366 Balloons later we made it happen and the kids were all so happy! The PTA and school were such a great team to work with.

PARTY TRAVEL TIPS

BONITO_DESIGN_EVENTS_UNICORN_HG.JPG

Hola! Bonito Design & Events did a Unicorn Party in Ecuador last year on this very same date.

If you recall from the fiesta of the photos seen HERE and on Bonito Instagram, was for my loving grandmother who turned 96. Today she turns 97 and because I just couldn't go this year (which I am totally bummed about) I decided to reminisce on all of Bonito's platform celebrating her.

On Instagram I will be posting photos of the party and video clips I have not shared. And on here I wanted to share a few tips on planning a destination party and some behind the scenes as well. So make sure you read below and then hop to HERE to see the instagram pics.

For those Planning a Destination Event or thinking about it here we go!

PACKING

  • PACKING: Of course, I wanted to pack the luggage with ALL my party decor, but that wasn't realistic. Instead, I packed a few things that were necessary that I knew I was going to have a struggle finding of there. So I packed things like mini pinatas, pastel colored balloons, cute paper cups/plates and even the unicorn cake topper made it to this travel. I also, kept in mind of thaking things that weren't too bulky or breakable. Everything else I got locally.

  • TIP: Balance out what to take and be smart of what is really needed because you also want to minimize shopping time on your trip. If you must take an item that is breakable I would say to make sure to wrap the item securely. I went heavy on the bubble wrap and paper to cover a few fragile things and made sure to place it in between clothes.
BONITO_DESIGN_EVENTS_UNICORN.JPG

LOCATION

  • LOCATION: Second, most important thing was location. After searching many pretty options we decided Nazu City Hostel's Penthouse was our best option. A Spacious, Modern Location, with a great Rooftop, Furniture and a brick wall I crushed on. The other reason was that we had to find a place that wasn't far for my grandmother to travel to.

  • TIPS: Concentrate on what you need from the space and make sure you read all amenities they provide before you book. I made sure I communicated that we were going to have a family gathering since this was a Penthouse not a venue. Thankfully it all worked out to our favor, but I strongly suggest you have great communication with the manger or owner. That way there are no surprises.

LOCAL VENDORS

  • LOCAL VENDORS: Researched Piñata & Baker vendors mostly on instagram. Social Media specially Instagram is a great tool to use to navigate through vendors. As for the cake my aunt made it :)
  • Since this was in Ecuador my communications were through emails, whatsapp and knowing Spanish helped.
  • Try to give yourself enough time to search and communicate with vendors before the party.

CAKE TOPPER

  • NYC VENDOR: I decided to take the cake topper because I knew my aunt would do the cake. So what I needed was a fabulous cake topper.  Joycie Cakes made a fondant unicorn topper to perfection. I was a little scared that something may happen to it because I was going to travel for 7 hour. Joycie reassured me that I should be fine and she boxed it securely. She was right!
  • TIP: A simple cake is always easy to get anywhere. Just make sure it has something that gives it a personal or thought outtouch. - If you are taking a cake topper I suggest to took it by hand in a small bag. Always consult with the baker on directions or advice.

SHOPPING

  • SHOPPING: For cupcakes & flowers I went to a local Floralist Company and a local bakery.
  • TIPS: Limit your shopping experience so you don't get beyond overwhelmed.

Ultimately, planning an event big or small in another state or country can be a little challenging. Our Unicorn theme party in Ecuador was a family celebration honoring our grandmother who turned 96 years of age. I wanted something different that we could all experience together. Time was limited and it needed a little more tlc than usual. A little sleep deprived, but all worth it. My family was an amazing resource and unbelievable help. So just make sure to do your research and keep this basic tips in mind.

This event was beyond special and happily successful! I wish I was there right now, but until then I will celebrate her virtually. FELIZ CUMPLEANOS ABUELITA!

Plus, when I do go no matter what month I will be creating a party for her either way.

Ok Hasta Luego. Xo.

Operation Shower Under The Big Top

BONITO DESIGN EVENTS OS 4.jpg

Every year you know that Bonito is part of Operation Shower. This year's Baby Shower theme was Circus - Under The Big Top. Undeniably this was going to be a Fun and Colorful celebration for all the Military Moms to be surprised with.

We had the joy to work with graphics from HWTM and designs from SpoonFlower Fabric . Loved incorporating black and white to the vibrant color scheme of the stationery design and adding some gold, white and baby colors. Balancing it all out visually, with a modern twist, making it sweet and Bonito.

NYCakePops who always donates for our table did these beautiful dotted and striped cake pops. As you can see the cake pops are on top of cupcake wrappers, decorated with different animal sticker and the sticks were embellished with fun colored feathers.

The SpoonFlower Fabric played the role of a unique place mat trimmed with red pom poms! Again giving it a modern twist to this Circus Table. If you notice the Lion's Ring was also trimmed with Red Pom Poms implying to be the Fire. Making it all very darling!

All the other details were as fun to come with... the hip floral vase, the funky fun straws, admit one ticket glass stem decor, ketchup and mustard baby bottles, light box, and on and on... To see ALL the Details go to the Full Gallery CLICK HERE.

These Moms were ALL overjoyed as soon as they walked in the room. Stepping into a room of pure magic, great energy and the amazing gifts waiting for them. Truly blessed to be a part of this organization and always happy to see all the Moms reactions.

Hope you enjoyed this post as much as we did creating.

Remember to see the Full Gallery of more details HERE.

XO Helen.

FEM THINK TANK EVENT

BONITO DESIGN FEM THINK TANK 27.jpg

Bonito had the opportunity to once again style an amazing Event in a fabulous space. All for our lovely friend Kathleen from Endlessly Elated, who hosted her 1st Fem Think Tank Event!

Thankfully Kathleen and I have very similar taste in style and gave me the green light to take control, which unfolded to all the prettiness you see here.

Inspiration came from the beautiful venue, Hudson Table and a pink box with black/white ribbon spotted on a window display. Of course, details played a huge role here as you can witness on this post or on our Instagram.

Made a surprise welcome sign that read: "Hello Lovelies," if you follow Kathleen you know that is her signature greeting.

Ugh, these custom frames where "Life," like Kathleen stated when first seeing them.

I had to plug in the Behind the Scene Video as well. FYI: Kathleen will be posting a video of the Event soon. Stay tuned.

Cheers to Kathleen, and all the GIRL BOSSES at FEM THINK TANK! XOXO
